In the spring of 2002, a small committee of individuals invested in the education of Cameron’s students started something truly special that has since blossomed into something extraordinary.
Building on an idea that first originated in 1999, Skip Jones and Dick Verrone - Cameron School of Business (CSB) Executives in Residence and instructors - along with a handful of area business professionals and a few CSB faculty members, founded the Cameron Executive Network (CEN).
If I had to choose one thing that has impacted my life significantly, I would have to give (international) travel the gold. To be honest, I think there are definitely pre-and post-study abroad Alishas that might as well be different species.
While I can't put my finger on exactly what about the experience of traveling changes you, I am going to give it my best shot!
- Detecting spam and malware.
- Guiding autonomous vehicles.
- Distinguishing between images of cats and dogs.
- Predicting diabetes-related hospital patient readmissions.
- Recommending the next show for you to “binge watch” on Netflix.
What do these seemingly unrelated things have to do with each other? Each of these tasks relies on analytics techniques and tools. These examples focus on the transformation of data into information, and then into insights and better business decisions.

I’ve been told my approach to mentoring with the Cameron Executive Network has been drastically different than that of typical mentors. Now, this is not to assume that my method will be a good fit for every mentor or mentee, and I continue to learn and grow as a mentor. But, I hope in sharing my experience, potential mentors will see that the program allows for flexibility, and it’s possible to creatively maximize our mentorship reach.

Although Matt Mylott ’07, ’18M is a native Californian, he’s very much at home on the East Coast. All it takes is a stroll down Chancellor’s Walk to remind him of what he loves most about life here.
For the last 14 years, Cameron’s PMBA program has challenged MBA student teams with a “real-world” consulting project known as the Learning Alliance (LA). The LA project pairs regional businesses with teams of PMBA students that provide comprehensive analysis of the companies’ business processes and competitive environments, as well as strategic recommendations for growth and/or profit improvement. The SBTDC is instrumental in selecting LA clients and helping to manage the relationships between the clients and the student teams.
