An interview with Brent Boswell, Cameron School of Business Alumnus (B.S. Business Administration with a concentration in Management, 2016)
How do you feel about your educational experience at Cameron School of Business?
The Cameron School of Business provided an excellent foundation for my career in Banking. Professors were knowledgeable in their respective areas of expertise, and inspired me to strive to succeed in the business world. I will forever value the opportunities and lifelong relationships that CSB and UNCW provided.
What was your favorite part of undergraduate concentration you participated in?
Individual and group projects that put the different facets of business into real-life scenarios. For instance, managing a fictitious company in MGT 400 courses.
What are you up to now?
I am the Vice President of Commercial Lending at Select Bank & Trust in Wilmington. I develop, oversee and manage a large portfolio of commercial real estate and small business loans for small to middle-market clients in the Southeast Region of NC. This involves actively engaging with business owners and investors throughout the community, to expand existing business and grow the bank’s client base. Duties include interviewing potential borrowers, collecting and analyzing financial information, underwriting and structuring commercial loans and ensuring bank and federal policies are adhered to.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy writing and playing music, spending time on and around the water with my wife Lauren and 2 year old son Joe, and volunteering through various local organizations. I also enjoy attending UNCW sporting events, particularly baseball and basketball. Finally, I enjoy learning and experimenting in the stock and cryptocurrency markets; no more than I can afford to lose of course.
Best place you’ve ever traveled?
Outside of the U.S., Belize is the best place that I’ve ever traveled; however, we try to get to the Florida Keys once a year. Locally, there is no better place than Wrightsville Beach.
What are two items on your bucket list?
I want to learn to sail and to attend a UNCW Final Four game
What advice do you have to give to current CSB students?
Absorb as much information and experience as you can while at UNCW. Enjoy your time in college but work hard to improve your skills and marketability; it’s a tough, competitive world out there. Give back to the University and Community when you leave. Always be proud to be a Seahawk!
