Another Cameron School of Business graduate has found a rewarding career – 600 miles north in New York City. Mathieu Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing in May 2015. He continued in CSB’s International MBA program to earn an MBA with a concentration in International Business from UNCW as well as an MBA in International Marketing from the University of Valencia in December 2016. These degrees helped land Mathieu a position as Account Executive at Yelp in New York City.
Mathieu’s favorite part of the International MBA program was the ability to not only obtain a graduate-level education in business, but also the chance to apply his learning in a foreign country. The program also enabled him to develop essential skills while enhancing his understanding of the global economy, which has augmented his career.
“My educational experience in the Cameron School of Business was extraordinary. The amount of knowledge I gained from both professors and peers, inside and outside of the classroom, has been invaluable in my young life and career. They present to you such a wealth of opportunity including internships, on-campus organizations, and international programs. These experiences have played a central role in shaping who I am today.”
Mathieu says that working in the field of digital advertising sales at Yelp has allowed him to “directly apply [his] marketing education and gain a deeper insight in the world of small- and medium-sized businesses.” He admits that any sales role is challenging, and this one is no exception. However, he finds that having the ability to leave a positive impact on local businesses and rapidly grow his career makes it very rewarding.
Despite having a full schedule working for Yelp, he finds the time to enjoy drinking craft beer and eating delicious food. He also has a passion for traveling and has been to 16 countries and counting. However, his love for travel doesn’t only apply to foreign countries; he also enjoys exploring the U.S.A., whether on a road trip, a hike, or attending music festivals, concerts, and sporting events. Living in New York City has presented Mathieu with many challenges but he believes that there is no better city to grow a career.
“I firmly believe that if you can make it in the Big Apple, you can make it anywhere.”
